Prescott Ranked Ninth in US for Well-Being by Gallup

The Gallup organization has ranked Prescott Ninth in the United States for overall well-being, and fourth in the community category of the survey.

According to the study, the State of American Well-Being series examines well-being across the nation, with 186 communities ranked based on their Well-Being Index scores. The report analyzes how well-being varies by community and across five elements of well-being:

1. Purpose: liking what you do each day and being motivated to achieve your goals
2. Social: having supportive relationships and love in your life
3. Financial: managing your economic life to reduce stress and increase security
4. Community: liking where you live, feeling safe, and having pride in your community
5. Physical: having good health and enough energy to get things done daily

Prescott finished in the top 10 in the Social and Financial categories, and top 20 in Purpose and Physical categories.

According to an online article in KTAR News in Phoenix, “The Central Arizona city of Prescott is well-known for its active downtown bar scene known as Whiskey Row. Watson Lake, in the northeast part of the city is home to many species of wildlife and a vast circuit of trails.”

Prescott Mayor Greg Mengarelli said that he is thrilled with this ranking. “This speaks very highly of Prescott and our overall quality of life,” he said. “We are blessed to have so many wonderful assets here – our mild climate, our hundreds of miles of trails, our diverse and active cultural scene, and a caring network of organizations dedicated to wellness. This study goes very in-depth, and Prescott ranks highly in all categories. We should all be very proud.”

Results of the report were based on over 300,000 phone interviews.  Gallup conducted the interviews, assisted by NCH Healthcare System and The Blue Zones Project.

Phoenix metropolitan area was ranked no. 48 in the nation, while Tucson came in at no. 88.
